To me, photography isn't art, so much as it is the science of observing a system and filtering out each aspect in turn; not painting with light... Sculpting it as a medium.
From the vast electromagnetic spectrum one chooses the frequencies he wishes to record, in order to preserve his perception at that point in space and time; or his imagination.
Whenever you open your eyes, you see what you cannot see. Whenever you listen, you hear what you cannot hear; and even when you speak, you speak with countless voices.
The concepts of causation are very impactful in photography, as they are in all audio-visual fields. You're not drawing anymore; you're managing waveform interactions.
It doesn't matter which, but you'll need one. Photography is a product of invention, and you require a machine to engage the practice; regardless of how simple or complex it may be.
The above was captured with a Sony CD Mavica, with a 2mp sensor; and yes, it was early enough as a digital camera that it had an in-built mini disc burner. Seems fine to me.
There has never been a "correct" way to record a photograph. Ansel Adams was known for being rather persnickety about this, and released a series of rules to ensure accurate, proper photographs were taken. He was a more controversial figure than you might think.
He knew precisely how to extract as much detail and emotional impact as possible; but in his time, photography had not yet fallen into the realm of the everyman, and the process was incredibly difficult and required, at times, months of preparation.
It mattered then. It doesn't now, unless you want magazine covers.
Would he like my photography? Of course not. He wouldn't like yours, either. Break the rules. There's no point wearing yourself out trying not to. Do that, and it's no longer fun.
It may be an annoying scrolling image gallery, but there's no sense having 14 pages of auto-loading images eating up your data; so I'll be arranging the others for easier mobile viewing. I don't like using mobile, but most do, so I must compromise.
The gallery will be live soon.
